Teesta’s anticipatory bail plea rejected by Gujarat High Court

The anticipatory bail plea of social activist Teesta Setalvad, her husband Javed Anand and three residents of Gulbarg society has been rejected in the alleged fund embezzlement case.

In this case, it was alleged that Ms. Setalvad, Mr. Anand, former MP Ehsan Jafri’s son Tanvir and two office bearers of the society Salimbhai Sandhi and Firoz Gulzar had embezzled funds to the tune of Rs. 1.5 crore meant for the construction of a memorial for riot victims.

Their bail plea had earlier been rejected by a sessions court, before they moved to the High Court.

Ms. Setalvad had maintained in her statements that the charges against her are “malicious” and “baseless”.
