Delhi High court comes to aid of poor and directs AIIMS

The Delhi high court through HMJ Vibhu Bakhru while hearing a writ petition has come to the aid of a 13 years old boy suffering from Potts Disease and directed the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to provide immediate treatment.
The poor teenage boy suffers from Potts disease a from of spinal tuberculosis which can lead to curving of backbone.
The father Rajender Kumar invoked the jurisdiction of the high court in a writ petition under article 226 of the constitution of India claiming that the family income is less than on lakh and that the boy needed immediate medical assistance.
“If the attending doctors is of the view that surgery is required urgently. AIIMS shall proceed to provide medical assistance and conduct the surgery without waiting for completion of formalities” the court said.
The court also recorded the undertaking of the father that he will complete formalities and apply to the authorities concerned for issuance of required certificates within a week.
Such a immediate and expeditious step by Delhi high court is in furtherance of the constitutional principles to save the life of the teenage boy.
