Supreme Court approves the Centre’s re – constitution of National Board for Wildlife

New Delhi: The way for reconstitution of National Board for Wildlife has been cleared by the Supreme Court. This has paved the way clear for over 140 infrastructure projects.

The bench led by Chief Justice of India H. L. Dattu rejected a plea that the board’s re – constitution by the NDA government was not done in consonance with the statutory mandate of the Wildlife Act, 1972.

In an order on 28th August, 2014 the Supreme Court had restrained the newly – constituted standing Committee under the National Board for Wildlife from clearing any new project falling in and around national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, and tiger reserves.
